We're talking about stories from the mission field this week. Since Jonna went to Romania by herself in 2016 she’s talking about her stories from that year.
My first trip has this really great story. I was part of a 10 person team. It was only a week long which I think is way too short. I was doing street ministry with my team through a village and I was paired with my interpreter George. We ran across this couple that was picking flowers off the trees to make tea, they invited us to their home and I was able to try the tea and chat with them for a little bit. After a while I asked if I could pray with them and if they had any illnesses or pain in their body. The man had a form of restless leg syndrome so I prayed for him and he got healed! Later that night I think George told Pastor Raul and Florina, a long term missionary, found out. So they told me that they wanted me to come pray over a lady that was blind that Florina has been visiting and ministering to recently. I was TERRIFIED. I didn’t have enough faith for that. Restless leg syndrome? Sure. The Blind?! Nope. So knowing that the next day they wanted her to get her healing I just kept praying this verse over and over “Lord I believe, help my unbelief” (Mark 9:23).
The next day, I left my team (I still have no idea what they did) and went on a road trip with Florina. We visited this woman and I kept praying that verse inside myself because I did not have any belief in myself that anything would happen. I just knew that I really wanted her to be healed. And that’s how Jesus moved right? By compassion. She told me she couldn’t see at all, that it was dark. I started praying for her that she would get her sight, and all of a sudden, she could see the colors of her furniture and rugs, and started pointing out where the lights were coming from. She got healed. I think that's really cool that God would do that. I liked that experience a lot.
Faith is not the feeling; it's stepping out to do it in the first place. A lot of times and I've seen God do major healings when I am terrified. I think that nothing is going to happen but I'm there and I'm praying anyway and God heals people. So if you’re looking for a sign to step out in love and pray for someone, here it is! Go out on the water, Jesus waits for us there.
