We have decided to break up our original newsletter in smaller pieces so we could add a little more information without it being daunting. We have spent the past May 15-June 22 on a trip to meet contacts in the Balkan countries, which is in Eastern Europe. We are so incredibly grateful for everyone who partnered with us through finances, prayer support, and preparing for this trip. We are also so thankful for the people who made coming back its own lovely experience.
The first person we met was a pastor who worked alone in Vidin, Bulgaria. We only got to spend a few hours with him before we had to leave for Serbia but we enjoyed our time with him and by the time we left he said “You guys are like a breath of fresh air.” We feel like just being us and letting God shine through us it granted him a lot of peace and hope. He translates materials into Bulgarian for the locals and educates as many as he can on politics, current events, and religious materials. He is very passionate for God to reach the people there and we will be working with him in the future. He used to have a team that worked with children, schools, and elderly but due to the Bulgarian Government changing laws they could no longer do that and most of the people that were working with him has moved on.
Being in Bulgaria we could see that there were very few with job positions. It was plain to see at noon at the town square that it was very populated. We found that Vidin smelled strongly of flowers.
He needs prayer for a solid team, companionship, against the government corruption, government to stop interfering and forbidding their work, encouragement, to find strategy to minister to people, and to find a way to work together in the community.
I loved getting to feel God’s Glory and Presence in the very air as we were driving through the countryside.
God really showed His love by giving opportunities to drive up through various mountains in different locations throughout Eastern Europe.
For example: driving up the Serbian mountains through the fog to a summit and getting to see the beautiful landscape all around us.
(Jonna woke up in the fog and said “did I wake up in heaven?!” She thinks she even saw glitter).
God gave us a detour from Kosovo that took us through the Macedonian mountains to get to Albania. Which showed us His creativity in His creation.
God really showed His love and satisfaction in giving us beautiful views our entire trip. - Nicholas
The second connection we made was with a pastor and his team in Nis, Serbia. They have a Bible College there and are very excited about evangelism. They were so welcoming and showed so much love that it really moved our hearts. They work on building relationships in their community, giving clothes and food to those in need, sharing the Gospel, education and ministry teaching, visiting different places including the Roma neighborhoods. They picked out our hotel and made sure we had dinner before we went to the hotel. We felt so much honor from them as we really felt loved. They seemed very excited to work with us as they said “It doesn’t matter your theology or mine. We both love Jesus--let’s further the Kingdom.” God was so prevalent in that meeting. https://www.btfnis.com/
Being in Serbia we could also see the struggles of the economy. We walked around and prayed for the city but were also blessed to have been shown some parts of the city by one of their interns that took us out to eat. Unfortunately our time there was short but sweet. Our hotel that night had a beautiful view of the city and it was gorgeous and foggy in the morning.
Some prayer points for them are; finances for the church and college, courage to do more outreaches and revival in the nation and the church.
We so enjoyed our time with these contacts. Stay tuned for more updates in the next couple months. We are leading a trip to Romania; if you are interested in this trip please email us at thenationscalloffice@gmail.com. We’re also planning on a few other trips, more details to follow! Thank you so so much for partnering with us.
